SMAT and Viewpoints Jam
-- A project under Nine Years Theatre Training Platform
The objective of Nine Years Theatre Training Platform is to create a space where artists who are interested in a particular training method can come together for the practice and study of the method on a regular and long-term basis. NYT welcomes performing artists who have learnt either one, or both of the methods to join us for the “SMAT and Viewpoints Jam”.
Important things to note:
1. The Jam is conducted in English. It is currently facilitated by the NYT Ensemble.
2. As NYT Training Platform is differentiated from classes organized by the company, there will be no formal teaching of the methods. Therefore, participants need to have learnt and experienced either the Suzuki Method of Actor Training or Viewpoints, or both. *Artists who are interested in learning the Suzuki Method of Actor Training or Viewpoints may look out for classes conducted by NYT from our website or by subscribing to our mailing list.
3. Every training session lasts 3 hours and is divided into two equal parts – the first half consists of the practice and discussion of the Suzuki Method, followed by Viewpoints session and discussion in the second half. *Participants who are training in only 1 out of the 2 methods are welcomed to sit through the other half as participant-observers who may contribute to the discussions.
4.The Jam is organized by "rounds" basis. Each round consists of 10 sessions. Sessions happen once a week. Hence, an entire round usually lasts 10 weeks.
5. Attendance is free of charge. Donations are welcomed. Tax-deductible receipts are available at request.
6. Schedules are planned to accommodate both NYT’s programming and participants’ needs as much as possible. While it is understandable that participants may not be able to attend all sessions due to work commitments, they are encouraged to try their best to achieve regularity in training. As such, NYT strives to release up-coming schedules as early as we can to help participants plan ahead.
7. New participants are required to complete the application form and submit it via email to
train@nineyearstheatre.com
.
