Everything For You

An Esplanade Huayi Festival Commission

Synopsis

What happens when a family decides that there should be no secrets?

On the first day of the lunar new year, a family of three sisters gathered at their aunt's place to celebrate.

Older sister Shi Qi (Jean Ng) has an unlikely new boyfriend: Guo Fu Cheng (Rayson Tan), the owner of a funeral parlour—a relationship that her son disapproves of. Second sister Shi Lin (Sharon Au) is a veteran stage actress facing a midlife crisis. She dreams of becoming an internet celebrity, and later finds herself at odds with her daughter when she becomes involved in a play directed by her daughter. Then, without warning, younger sister Shi Jie (Mia Chee) returns alone from Australia without her partner, bringing a piece of devastating news. The atmosphere is tense, and the family is plunged into crisis. Despite their strong bonds, there seems to be no solution in sight for the family...

Following the well-loved Between You and Me, commissioned by Esplanade and premiered at Huayi 2022, Nine Years Theatre (NYT) is back with another heartfelt play that depicts the anxieties of everyday Singaporeans. Featuring familiar and relatable characters, this play distils the essence of life, with bittersweet moments that invoke both joy and sadness, laughter and tears.

Written and directed by NYT’s Artistic Director, Nelson Chia, Everything For You is an original play that features a stellar cast of actors such as Jean Ng, Sharon Au, Mia Chee, Rayson Tan, Johnny Ng, and Liow Shi Suen.

“Chia’s ear for dialogue fills the script with an authentic hotchpotch of languages that reflects Singapore’s polyglot landscape.” – The Straits Times, on Between You and Me (2022)
